Kurzfassung

By cascading two DOEs are optical elements (lens, axicon, phase shifter, spiral phase plate) obtained, whose optical power can be adjusted continuously by just rotating one DOE with respect to the other.


Lösung

By cascading two specifically structured DOEs, we obtain optical elements (lens, axicon, phase shifter, spiral phase plate), whose optical power can be adjusted continuously in a simple manner by just rotating one DOE with respect to the other. In the case of a lens, e.g., the focal length can be varied continuously.

  • Continuous variation of the optical properties within a wide range in a simple manner
  • Low fabrication costs in serial production
  • Thin and lightweight
  • Offset optical power can be implemented in all elements listed above
  • High optical efficiency
  • Combination with “standard” optics (e.g. glass lenses) permits compensation of dispersion effects

  • Imaging in general (in particular: lightweight and compact zoom optics for cameras, telescopes, microscopes)
  • Beam projection (adjustable illumination systems, lamps & headlights, scanners, projectors, printers etc.)
  • Laboratory equipment (adjustable multi-purpose devices for optical prototyping etc.)
  • Scientific and front-end applications (laser beam shaping and modulation, production of doughnut beams in optical tweezers, interferometers, etc.)
  • Communications technology: glass fiber couplers
  • Summary: Special high-end applications as well as numerous low-end mass products
